TIPS TO ACHIEVE GOOD EXAM RESULTS

Achieving good exam results has always been important. As many people would agree, a good academic result would provide a good head start for an individual to compete better in the employment world. Many children experience frustration and even failure in their school exams. It is not because they lack ability, but because they do not have adequate study skills. Knowing how to study effectively fosters feelings of competence, develops positive attitudes, and helps children realize they can control how well they do in school and life. Good study habits also lay the groundwork for successful work habits as an adult.
Teachers and parents must work together to help children learn good study skills. Children need to discover how they learn best, work out a study system that fits their learning style, and use that system regularly. Ideally, an effective study system would need to have the following 6 major elements:

1) Input & Output Learning
An effective system should incorporate both input and output learning. Input learning are reading, studying, memorizing and listening. Output learning is the ability to retrieve and apply what you have studied or learnt. A good source of output learning would provide students with fun and effective learning tools for self study.

2) Monitoring System
An updated monitoring system is essential to record a student’s output learning sessions. It should give parents unprecedented 1st hand knowledge of their children’s strong and weak subjects on a daily basis so that timely measures can be taken to correct whatever deficiency before actual exam takes place.

3) Prime Time
While some students like to get up early in the morning and study, some will say that late night studying is most productive. Different students have different ‘prime time’ to study. Children in the 21st century should have access to unlimited opportunities to learn anytime anywhere and that they have the tools that make this possible via the internet.

4) Time Management
Student is trained to complete exercises within stipulated time and will get accustomed and be better disciplined to manage their own time and be ready to face exam.

5) Catalyst
Students are motivated to study and will continue to improve their performance each time before the actual exam.

6) Personal & Emotional Bonding
Children are more motivated to succeed if parents are aware of their academic development. Through the real time monitoring system, parents are able to communicate better with their children in terms of expectation and thus reduce anxiety and can develop closer relationship between parents and their children.

WHY YOUR CHILD FAILED IN SCHOOL?

WHAT ARE THE SOLUTIONS TO HELP HIM?

How do you help your child who is struggling academically? Before we find the solution, let’s take a look at the main reasons that probably causes your child to struggle in the first place.

Lack of Parental Involvement
Studies have shown that children are more motivated to succeed if parents are aware of their academic development. The three way communication has to exist between parent, teachers and the student. Parents should play a more active role by asking your child what he/she has learned at school each day and your child would be more than happy to feedback to you. The goal is to be interested in what your child is learning so that he/she will see the value in learning.

Don’t Skip Class
Academic excellence begins from school. There is no secret to achieving good results or success. It is simply hard work and understanding what is being taught in the classroom. So make sure that your child has a high attendance rate and don’t skip class unnecessarily.

Poor Study Skills
Often students have no idea how to study. Many students do only Input Learning – reading, studying, memorizing & listening are only Input Learning – that is why students get average marks. The key to accomplish good grades is Output Learning™ – the ability to retrieve and apply what you have studied or learnt. The key to here is applying what your child has learned at school. This could be achieved by encouraging your child to do short regular exercise and provides instant Output Learning to access your child’s level of understanding of a particular topic taught in school.

Lack of Motivation
Motivation is important to help your child achieve success and confidence in studies. Reinforce the important of studies to your child and be persistent. You need to use affirmative sentences in order to let your child understand the importance of education. Don’t shout or yell or even criticize your child. It will only de-motivate him/her from study. Praise him/her when they do well and encourage them to try harder to excel. Remember that you too will have to sacrifice a lot when your child is studying. Unless you yourself don’t portray a good sign of sincerity, your child would not understand its importance.
